Your colour options

Concrete is a dynamic product providing durability, shape, colour, permanence, serviceability, and strength. Most of the concrete we place is either plain or has a percentage of black oxide mixed to mute a little of the bright finish new concrete has. However, when we are stamping concrete it is almost always coloured and has a different coloured release agent.

Plain concrete

Standard concrete with either 13 or 19mm stones. This concrete can be finished in a number of ways but is always a bright white colour when dry. It will eventually get dirty and go a grey colour but for the first year or two it will be quite a bright white.

Black oxide (various percentages)

We often add 3% black oxide if our clients do not want bright white concrete. This leaves the concrete a pale blue colour. The higher the percentage of oxide the blacker the concrete.

Exposed aggregate often uses a much higher dose of black oxide around 10% to achieve a dark grey, almost black colour.

Coloured concrete

We can either add colour to the concrete before it is poured or we can cast colour powder across the newly laid concrete and work it into the mix. There are dozens of colours to choose from so you can really get what you want without too much difficulty.

Stamped concrete

This technique enhances the aesthetic appeal of the concrete. The intricate patterns and textures created can mimic various materials such as brick, slate, or wood, making it a versatile option for different design preferences.

Stamped concrete is often used in patios, driveways, pool decks, and even interior floors, providing a cost-effective alternative to other paving materials. It offers the advantage of being customizable, allowing homeowners and designers to create unique spaces that reflect their personal style.

Moreover, maintenance is relatively straightforward. Regular cleaning and resealing every few years keep the surface looking fresh and vibrant, ensuring that the investment in stamped concrete remains worthwhile over time.

Our concrete

Standard concrete typically has a plain white appearance and a strength of 20MPa. After extensive experience in placing concrete, we have found that using steel mesh in conjunction with 25MPa concrete results in fewer cracks. The mesh contributes to the structural integrity of the concrete, reducing the occurrence of larger visible cracks.

Transitioning from 20MPa to 25MPa concrete will incur an additional cost of approximately $15 per square meter. Implementing 665 seismic steel mesh will add around $12 per square metre to your basic concrete cost.

It is understandable that customers wish to minimize expenses while avoiding cracks in their concrete. However, it must be acknowledged that all concrete possesses the potential to crack, and no concrete placer can guarantee their concrete will be entirely free of cracks.

For this reason, we generally use 25MPa concrete and steel mesh. Since adopting this practice, we have observed a significant reduction in cracking incidents and, consequently, fewer challenging discussions with customers regarding the inevitability of cracks in concrete.

Additionally, we distinguish ourselves by employing a 165kg plate compactor as standard. Every concrete installation involves at least 50mm of crushed stone that requires thorough compression to establish a solid foundation for the concrete. While most companies use a 60kg compactor, we have determined that it does not provide sufficient compaction. Upgrading to the larger machine has enabled us to achieve better concrete placement with fewer complications.

Guest House

Using old bricks from the guest house and others we supplied we built a pretty courtyard with water feature. Coloured concrete.

Swimming pool

The concrete needed an anti slip finish so we gave it a lovely sponge finish and then cut 1m squares for a decorative finish.

Outside entertaining

This large pad will become the outside seating area for guests and party goers. A simple trowel finish.

Stamped concrete on an area like this would be very impressive.

Restore path

We lifted the old path that was quite old and broken. The new concrete has a little black oxide to take some of the bright white glare off. It looks quite dark here but it will go a light blue/grey.

Courtyard privacy

This private courtyard is just the place to relax and unwind. The concrete means there are no muddy boots.

Extra Car Park

Our designer created this nice design to match the brick wall and existing driveway. The space is just for one extra car.
