How Colour Steel Fencing is Installed
For this fencing project in Napier, we followed a structured process to ensure a strong and professional finish.
1. Site Preparation
We began by clearing and preparing the fence line to ensure a straight, level installation.
2. Post Installation
Steel or timber posts were installed securely to form the framework of the fence.
3. Panel Installation
Colour steel panels were then fixed in place, ensuring alignment and consistency across the fence line.
4. Final Checks
We completed the installation by checking the structure, alignment, and overall finish.
Proper installation is key to ensuring the fence remains strong and visually clean over time.
Real Project: Colour Steel Fence Installation in Napier
This project was completed for a residential property in Napier. The homeowner wanted a fence that would:
Provide privacy from neighbours
Require minimal maintenance
Deliver a clean and modern look
The finished result is a durable, secure colour steel fence that enhances the property and will perform well long-term.
We regularly install colour steel fencing across Napier and Hawke’s Bay. This is an example of a typical fence install. Most clients choose colour steel when they want privacy and durability. We use both machines and labour to get the job competed quickly and efficiently. The digger is small enough to get around most properties and powerful enough to make short work of even the most difficult trees and old concrete. In this example you will see the digger easily picks up large mounds of vegetation and places them carefully on the truck. The truck then takes the waste away and tips it out. We can take over 3 tonnes with the truck so it is normally just a few loads to clear the old fence.
Karen had a wooden fence that had seen better days. We took that down and assembled a colour steel fence with concrete nib.

In our experience, using the digger helps achieve in minutes what would take men hours to do. We use it to pull out old fence posts and clearing the fence line ready for the new fence.
One thing we often see is fences failing early due to poor post installation — getting the foundation right is what ensures a colour steel fence lasts long-term. With the old fence removed we set up the colour steel posts and build the framework for the concrete nib. The concrete is often brought in on a ready mix concrete truck as it allows us to place the concrete in an hour. We can then wait another hour before starting to smooth it off. The concrete needs to be set before we leave for the day.
We often use a vibrator when the nib is exposed so that the sides of the concrete are smooth with no air pockets.

The following day we can remove the wooden framework and start to assemble the fence.
Typically, on day 1 we aim to take a fence down and set the posts in place, day 2 we will set up the wooden framework, day 3 we will pour the nib. Then on day 4 we can remove the wooden framework and assemble the new fence.
So, if we start on Monday, we should have the whole job completed by Thursday or Friday. We would rather never leave you without a fence on the weekend. Everyone feels a bit naked without a fence, so we try to get the fence down and replaced within a few days.
Here you can see that the Colour steel fence is finished. It is all lovely and straight with a nice concrete nib. It is gratifying to complete these jobs quickly and see such a difference.
Gates are either made, bought or commissioned to suit the fence. These can then be automated or installed with a lock. All our swing gates have drop bolts so you can keep the gate open. I find there is nothing worse than a gate that swings closed when it wants.
